Nepalese Man Declared ‘World’s Shortest Person’

Chandra Bahadur Dangi, world's shortest man

On Sunday, an official from Guinness World Records named a 72-year-old Nepalese man the shortest man alive and the shortest person ever to be recorded by the publication. He was presented with two certificates to commemorate these achievements.

Chandra Bahadur Dangi measured in at an official height of 21.5 inches, about the same height as a toddler. (The previous record holder is 23.5 inches tall.) Before Dangi, the shortest person Guinness had recorded in its 57-year history was a man who was 22.5 inches tall. He passed away in 1997.

Dangi’s mountain village of Rhimkholi is so remote that no one knew of his existence until now. He doesn’t travel or even work outside the home. He says he would now like to travel across Nepal and meet the prime minister.

The small man has a normal, adult-sized head and regularly shaves, but the rest of his body is small. His five brothers are all average height. Dangi can walk and climb small stairs and doctors found no immediate health problems when they examined him.

The world’s shortest woman, a 24.7 inch tall teenager in India was also named recently.
