(SHELBY) – AMERICA IS HONORING ITS VETERANS TODAY.   IN A PROGRAM

AT SHELBY H.S. THIS MORNING STUDENTS HELPED VETERANS ROLL OUT THE 30X50

VETERANS MEMORIAL FLAG AS THE AUDIENCE CITED THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

FEATURED SPEAKER, VETERAN BOB LONGCAKE FIRST EXPLAINED AND THEN

ASKED THE AUDIENCE TO REPEAT THE PLEDGE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THE

WORDS REALLY SAY.

LONGCAKE NOTED THAT IN WORLD WAR II, 1 IN EVERY 4 AMERICANS SERVED

IN THE ARMED FORCES, COMPARED TO TODAY WHEN ONLY ONE HALF OF 1% SERVE

IN THE MILITARY.

IN HIS WORDS, “NEVER HAVE SO MANY OWED SO FEW A DEBT OF GRATITUDE.”

A GUEST ON OUR THIS, THAT & THE OTHER PROGRAM THIS MORNING, VIETNAM

VETERAN PAUL RATHSACK OF CONRAD ENCOURAGED YOUNG VETERANS TO STAY INVOLVED

WITH VFW AND AMERICAN LEGION POSTS.

HE NOTED THAT POSTS IN CHESTER, CHOTEAU AND CUT BANK HAVE ALREADY

BEEN LOST AND WHILE HE UNDERSTANDS THAT YOUNG PEOPLE ARE VERY BUSY AND MAY

JUST WANT TO FORGET ABOUT IT……THE LOSS OF THE CHARTER FOR THE POSTS ALSO MEANS

A LOSS OF BENEFITS.

THE PRAIRIE VIEW SCHOOL IN CONRAD AND THE SUNBURST SCHOOL ALSO HELD

VETERANS’ PROGRAMS THIS MORNING AND THE GALATA AREA EAGLE SCOUTS WILL PRESENT

THEIR ANNUAL VETERANS DAY PANCAKE SUPPR TONIGHT STARTING AT 4:30 AT THE GALATA

COMMUNITY HALL.   PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT “BOYS STATE” AND THE VETERANS MEMORIAL FLAG

IN SHELBY.    ALSO, A FREE VETERAN’S MEAL WILL TAKE PLACE TONIGHT AT THE CUT BANK ELK’S

LODGE STARTING AT 6 PM.

KSEN SAYS THANKS TO OUR VETERANS TODAY.
