Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railway spokesman, Matt Jones confirmed this afternoon that a trail derailed eleven miles south of Shelby Monday morning just after 8:00 am.

Jones says that seven cars came off the track and six more were on their sides, but no hazardous materials were spilled. One car was filled with methanol but it was not among the cars that derailed.

The train was southbound, heading toward Great Falls when it derailed; there were no injuries and the cause remains under investigation. Heavy equipment was being taken to the site to clear the wreckage.
