Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw were the top country touring attraction of the year with their Brothers of the Sun Tour, according to Billboard magazine, which has just published its 2012 Year in Music roundup. The massive road trek sold out nine of 23 shows and played to 1,085,382 total fans, raking in $96,458,890 to place seventh in all genres behind such huge mainstream artists as Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and Lady Gaga.

Jason Aldean wrapped up a hugely successful year of touring by coming in at No. 13 overall, selling out every one of the 59 shows he played in 2012 to a total audience of 984,229 screaming fans. Aldean took in a whopping $39,956,703, which put him one notch above Lady Antebellum. The superstar trio’s winning mix of harmony vocals and songwriting helped them sell out 72 of their 88 shows, playing to 860,065 fans for a gross of $38,358,801.

Perennial favorite Brad Paisley is no stranger to huge arena crowds, and he packed ’em in again this year, playing to 485,852 fans and selling out 31 of 51 shows for a total of $33,794,719 — enough to place him at No. 16 overall. He weighed in a full eight spots above pop country superstar Taylor Swift, who sold out all 21 of her 2012 concerts, performing to 285,715 people for a total gross of $26,310,160.

Rascal Flatts are another live favorite, and their Changed Tour sold out 21 of 45 shows and played to 612,243  fans in 2012. The group have been reinvigorated not just musically, but financially as well, adding another $26,155,360 to their career stats — not bad for a band that was considering breaking up just a few years ago.

Other acts in the Top 25 Tours of 2012 include Barbra Streisand, Van Halen, Elton John, Justin Bieber and Rod Stewart.
