Mother nature strikes again. Tim McGraw and the Dixie Chicks were set to perform separate headlining sets at the annual Calgary Stampede, with their shows scheduled between July 10 and 13. The concerts were booked to take place at the Calgary Saddledome, but due to the floods that damaged the venue last month, the shows have been canceled.

Other acts that were confirmed to perform at the Stampede include rock legends Kiss and Canadian pop songstres Carly Rae Jepsen.

The powers-that-be decided that there was no alternative due to the size of the productions that were planned. They tried to devise a solution, but due to the condition of the structure, it wasn’t workable.

Stampede CEO Vern Kimball explains, “Unfortunately, we have just determined that the four concerts scheduled in the Saddledome cannot proceed due to the damages the facility suffered during the recent flooding. Given the size of the four shows and that they were all intended for indoor setup with tailored effects and lighting, there was no feasible alternative.”

The damage is serious — so serious that it could create problems for the Oct. 6 start of the hockey season for the NHL’s Calgary Flames, which utilize the space as their home arena.

Flames president Ken King addressed the cancellations as well, sharing that “electrical, potable water, sanitation and at the end of the day personal safety would be compromised if we made any attempt even on a restricted basis to afford the building for the use of these concerts. We’re regretful that it couldn’t happen, but not due to lack of effort.”

McGraw tweeted about the cancellations, promising that he will make the date up. He posted: “Thoughts, prayers and love to everyone affected by the flooding in Calgary. Needed 2 postpone our show this week, but it won’t keep us away.” He then promised, “We’ll b back!!”

A new date is yet to be decided.

Since 1912, the Calgary Stampede has been an annual festival boasting rodeo events, music, food, games, agricultural competitions and other forms of entertainment.
