Hit-and-Run Teen Criminal Caught After Boasting on Facebook

In Oregon last week, a 14-year-old boy driving a stolen passenger van lost control and slammed into a SUV, critically injuring the other driver. The teen fled the scene but was caught the next day after — get this — boasting about his escape on Facebook.

According to police, the boy was arrested last Wednesday at Sam Barlow High School, where he’s a freshman, after writing a post on the social media site that read, “Somehow, the police haven’t caught me yet.”

The boy, whose name wasn’t released since he’s underage, was booked into a juvenile detention facility for felony hit-and-run and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The driver of the SUV, 52-year-old Dean Pace, suffered broken ribs, a punctured spleen and a ruptured lung. He was airlifted to a hospital and is currently listed in serious condition.

Eyewitnesses say the boy was traveling on a highway when he drifted into the center grass median. In a panic, he overcorrected, swerving back onto the highway and sideswiping Pace’s SUV. After the van rolled, the teen climbed out of the wrecked vehicle and ran on foot. (Presumably to go update his Facebook status.)
