As Shelby Mayor, His Worship-Dr. Larry J. Bonderud, says, "run to the roundhouse, they'll never CORNER you there"! The National Association of Railroad Passengers is invited back to Washington DC next month for the BIGGEST week of the year for national passenger train advocacy. It is scheduled for April 22nd through the 24th in our national's capital. NARP Day on Capitol Hill takes place on Tuesday, April 23rd. This is when NARP supporters from across the country come to the halls of Congress, meeting with Senators & Representatives, or members of their staffs, to talk about why increasing investment in passenger trains & a balanced transportation network is impotent to them. This is a conference for passenger train advocacy leaders from across the country. It will feature preeminent figures in the transportation field-including senior officials from Amtrak, the US Department of Transportation & other agencies & organizations-as guest speakers, as well as stimulating workshops & breakout session. Plus, it's your opportunity to network with others who are passionate about giving more Americans the choice of safe, convenient, affordable, modern train travel. It goes without saying that we are most dependent on Amtrak service up here on the Hi-Line & I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say how very fortunate we all are to be served by the infamous Empire Builder. I'm a proud member of the NARP & if you would like more information on the NARP & helping to maintain passenger rail service, not only here on the Hi-Line, but nationwide, contact the National Association of Railroad Passengers at: narp@narprail.org. If you haven't "ridden the rails" lately, give the "Builder" a try. You'll never want to fly or drive again. It's a real FIRST CLASS experience! In the meantime, I'll be in the "club car"!
