We've added a new voice to our Extension Minute reports on KSEN-am and K96-fm. Shaelyn Meyers has recently joined Wendy Wedum in the MSU Extension Service office in Conrad. They will share the reporting duties on the Extension Minutes each Friday afternoon at 12:50pm.
We asked Shaelyn to tell us a little about herself:

My name is Shaelyn Meyer and I’m brand new to Conrad so if you see a stranger walking around it’s probably me so please introduce yourself… and better yet invite me out for a farm or ranch tour. I’ve already been busy making the rounds getting to know the area.

I moved here from Bozeman exactly 13 days ago which seems so unreal because I’ve already started to think of Conrad as home. I grew up on a ranch in southeastern MT about 12 miles west of Ekalaka, yep that’s right, I’m almost from the Dakotas, but I’m as Montanan as they come. My great grandparents on both sides of the family homesteaded in Montana over a hundred years ago so I’d like to think that farming and ranching is in my blood. I grew up riding horses, moving cows and putting up hay every summer… of course I didn’t realize how much I loved all of that until I moved to Bozeman for college. Isn’t it crazy how that works?

Montana will always be home but I have done a bit of globetrotting around Australia where I lived for a year chasing my passion for training horses. I worked in Western Australia about an hour from Perth where I started colts and assisted in equine reproduction work. From there I moved on to Northern Territory where I worked on a ½ million acre cattle station, which is Australian for “ranch”. After a year down under I decided it was time to come home and finish my bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Livestock Production which I completed at MSU in December.

I hope you all are enjoying the nice weather we’ve been having, I’m sure a lot of you are gearing up for gardening; it’s that time of year! So if you need any horticulture tips, call me at the Pondera County Extension office at 271-4053.
