Today roughly 2.2 million American households care for an adult with a chronic or terminal medical condition.  Caring for someone can be physically, emotionally and financially draining. One of the sad statistics is that many caregivers become critically ill or die before the person they are caring for.  This is because they put off taking care of themselves.

Pondera County Agent Wendy Wedum will be offering a class to the public called Powerful Tool for Caregivers.

The goals of the class are to reduce personal stress, improve self-confidence, balance commitments, communicate needs to family members and service providers, deal with difficult feelings and challenging situations, learn about community resources, and take better care of yourself.  The class is for people who provide in-home care, care to someone in a residential care facility or caring from long-distance.

The six-week series will be Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pondera Community Center and begins on May 10th.  The class fee is $35 and participants receive the Caregiver Helpbook, handouts and numerous resources.  Caregivers will receive tools and self-care skills to help them take better care of themselves so they can continue to be an effective caregiver.

Caregivers can learn to care for themselves while caring for another person, which in turn benefits both individuals.  Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a program proven to produce results which can help.  The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program was created by Legacy Caregivers Services.

Pre-registration is required, call the Pondera Co. Extension office at 271-4054 to register or for more information.
