Craig - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to mitigate hazards from potential rock fall at several locations on Interstate 15, north of Helena, MT.

The project begins near Sieben, at reference post 218.0 and extends north for 2.1 miles ending near Lyons Creek at reference post 220.1.

Proposed work includes a variety of rock fall mitigation techniques
including but not limited to: trim blasting, scaling, rock bolting, draped mesh, rock fall fences and barriers, concrete barriers, and ditch improvements.

Motorists should expect road closures up to 30 minutes periodically in both northbound and southbound driving lanes during the rock fall mitigation process.  MDT apologizes for any inconveniences this may cause and is committed to completing this project as quickly as possible.

Motorists are reminded to travel at posted speeds and obey all posted signs.
Fines double in work zones

The project is tentatively planned for 2015 depending on completion of design and availability of funds.  Right-of-way acquisition will be required.  MDT staff will contact all affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land.  Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding right-of-way acquisition.
