I received word this morning (Tuesday) from Tall Todd, the custom cutter guy who shows up here to the Golden Triangle every harvest season. Todd says that his crew has started to harvest in Vernon, Teas, where they have had over 25 inches of rain! Their 1st winter wheat field they harvested yielded 15 bushels to the acre & was 51.9 test weight. The next field yielded 18 bushels to the acre & also 51.9 test weight. Yesterday, Monday, they moved directly across the road & the yield there was 46 bushels per acre with a test weight of 59.1. The difference between the 3 fields was that the last field was sprayed for rust & the 1st 2 were not! The temperature in Vernon is in the 90's & NO rain forecast until Thursday. Todd complains that they haven't been able to start until around 3 in the afternoon because of the humid conditions. Won't be long now until Todd & the guys are back up here in north central Montana. I'll keep you updated on my Puffman Blog.
