Local sports – Athlete of the Week

KSEN/K96—Bozeman trophy athlete of the week possibilities were many this past week with stellar play by numerous teams and individuals in last week’s district tournament. With that said, female athlete of the week honors go to Conrad jr. Emily Harwood whose 17 points and 12 rebounds gave the cowgirls a trip to this week’s Northern B Divisional in Malta.

Harwood was outstanding down the stretch in the cowgirls clinching win over rocky boy. Not only the points and the rebounds but 4 pressure free throws in a row down the stretch including the final two right here after she pulled down a key rebound.

And Conrad won it 51-47 in the biggest upset of the tournament. Harwood extended the outstanding play into the consolation game with 13 points and 9-rebounds as Conrad beat cut bank for 3rd. Emily’s nominator also told us they could fill several pages with the things Emily does on and off the court.

Our male athlete also is a natural leader on and off the court, a humble individual who only tries to do what it takes for his team to win. Shelby’s sr. Power forward and post Brad Fretheim had a more than solid tournament including two huge games against rocky boy. In the opener, 15 points, 3-3 at the line, 5 steals and 8 rebounds……..this was just one of those.

And in the consolation game giving Shelby the 3rd place finish and a spot in the Northern B Divisional, Fretheim exploded for a career high 25 points, 3-steals and 7 more rebounds. He hit 17-21 free throws in the 4 games of the tournament. The Shelby senior has also been an outstanding football player starting 32-33 varsity games for Shelby in his 4-year career and earning 1st team all-conference honors in both his junior and senior. He’s also a top golfer in the spring time.

We also strongly considered Simms-Augusta’s Hollee Meek who 21 points vs Dutton/Brady including a big 3, a steal and an assist to give the lady tigers a win in the last minute.

Also Choteau’s Dylan Pannabecker who led the bulldogs with 22 points in Choteau’s championship victory over Fairfield. Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week Conrad junior Emily Harwood and Shelby senior Brad Fretheim

The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in cut bank. McDonalds rewards our athletes with two free value meals each.
