Jason Aldean and Lenny Kravitz Open 2013 CMT Awards With Rockin’ Version of ‘American Woman’
2013 CMT Awards co-host Jason Aldean opened the 2013 CMT Music Awards with a thoroughly rockin’ version of ‘American Woman’ with a blazing hot assist from rocker Lenny Kravitz.
The show began with the camera to the musicians’ backs as they made their way to the stage and ascended it.
The brothers from another mother (and genre, really!) first performed on a riser and then descended to the lower stage, meeting in the middle to fist bump before commandeering the crowd’s attention. It was a whole lotta guitar, but they made it work.
It was incredibly interesting that the duo opened a country music awards show with a classic rock song from the ’70s by the Guess Who — a song which Kravitz later popularized and reintroduced into rock and pop culture in 1999.
That said, it was a thrilling duet, one that was filled with both Aldean’s twang and Kravitz’s soul. Put simply — it freakin’ rocked.
And that’s how you open an awards show, people!
