Heart Butte Evacuated
Spotted Eagle Fire is near Mitten Lake and Green Lake, approx 3 miles from Heart Butte. (Updated 8:30pm)
The Blackfeet Tribal Council has declared an emergency in the Heart Butte area, and has order the evacuation of all residents in Heart Butte to the Palookaville Road. Law enforcement officials from the tribe, Glacier County and Pondera County are going door-to-door to notify residents.
The Red Cross is setting up an emergency shelter at the ACA Complex in Browning.
This evacuation has been ordered by the Tribal Council because the Spotted Eagle Fire has moved to within a mile of the Blackfeet Reservation Boundary near Heart Butte.
The Spotted Eagle Fire is one of four fires in the Family Peak Wildfire Complex in the southern Badger-Two Medicine area, north and west of Swift Reservoir, . As of Thursday evening, it was 698 acres in remote, actively burning heavy timber in the upper Lonesome Creek drainage.
