‘Healing in the Heartland’ Benefit Raises Millions for Oklahoma Tornado Victims

Blake Shelton
Warner Music Nashville

Blake Shelton sure has a lot to be proud of. The Oklahoma native spearheaded a concert on Wednesday night (May 29) to benefit the victims of the tornado that swept through Moore, Okla. on May 20, raising millions for the cause.

According to local TV station KJRH in Tulsa, the event — aptly named ‘Healing in the Heartland’ — brought more than $6 million.

Shelton conceived the idea for the event immediately after the tornado struck and pulled it together quickly by partnering with NBC. Just nine days after the deadly tornado devastated Moore, the singer and an all-star cast of friends were onstage in Oklahoma City. Tickets for the event sold out within minutes of going on sale, and the live telecast also allowed viewers to call in and pledge on the spot.

Some of the highlights of the concert were Darius Rucker‘s rendition of ‘True Believers,’ Miranda Lambert‘s tearful ‘The House That Built Me,’ Vince Gill‘s emotional performance of ‘Threaten Me With Heaven‘ and Shelton’s show-closing version of ‘Home,’ for which he was joined by fellow ‘The Voice’ coach Usher.

The money raised from the benefit will go to the United Way, who will use it to aid local residents in some of the areas hardest hit by the tornado. Donate here.
