Grizzly Bear snared along the Marias River

(SHELBY) – U-S-D-A WILDLIFE SERVICES HAS CAPTURED A  440 POUND

MALE GRIZZLY BEAR ALONG THE MARIAS RIVER, 9 MILES WEST OF INTERSTATE 15.

WILDLIFE SERVICES SPOKESMAN MIKE HOGGAN SAYS HE FIRST RECEIVED

WORD OF THE BEAR POSSIBLY KILLING 2 LAMBS IN THE AREA AND THEN LATER A

250-POUND CALF ABOUT A MILE AND A HALF DOWN THE RIVER.

HOGGAN SAYS HE SET TWO SNARES SAT. AND TWO MORE SUNDAY AND

THE GRIZZLY WAS FOUND IN ONE OF THE SNARES EARLY MONDAY MORNING.

THE BEAR WAS COLLARED AND RE-LOCATED BY THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT

OF FISH, WILDLIFE AND PARKS.

HOGGAN SAID THAT A GUARD DOG AT THE FIRST KILLING SITE MAY HAVE

PREVENTED THE GRIZZLY FROM ATTACKING SHEEP AND EVEN FROM FEEDING ON

THE 2 LAMBS.
