WEST GLACIER, MT.  – Glacier National Park is proud to help launch the Every Kid in a Park program, as part of President Obama’s commitment to protect our nation’s unique outdoor spaces and ensure that every American has the opportunity to visit and enjoy them. Through the Every Kid in a Park program, fourth graders can now receive free access to federally managed lands during the 2015-2016 school year.

To receive their free pass for national parks, fourth graders can visit the Every Kid in a Park website and play a game to access their special Every Kid in a Park pass. Fourth graders and their families can then use this pass for free entry to national parks and other federal public lands and waters across the country from September 1, 2015 through August 31, 2016.  The website also includes fun and engaging learning activities aligned to educational standards, trip planning tools, safety and packing tips, and other important and helpful information for educators and parents.
Every Kid in a Park is a crucial component of a multi-pronged approach to inspire the next generation to discover all that our nation’s public lands and waters have to offer, including opportunities to be active, spend time with friends and family, and serve as living classrooms to build critical skills. Glacier National Park offers countless opportunities for youth and their families, including ranger-led hikes, campground talks, boat tours, a Junior Ranger Program, ranger-led education classroom field trips, and much more.

“There’s a lot to discover here, and we’re excited to welcome fourth graders and their families to Glacier throughout the year,” said Glacier National Park Superintendent Jeff Mow. “We hope that our young visitors have fun in the great outdoors and develop a lifelong connection to our nation’s land, water, and wildlife.”

The Glacier National Park Conservancy and the Glacier Institute are instrumental in extending and expanding on the park’s efforts to engage youth. The Glacier Conservancy provides funding to Glacier education through numerous youth projects, including travel grants for local schools to come to Glacier. The Conservancy has been working with the park to extend this success to help all Montana students get out into our public lands. The Glacier Institute continues to provide family and youth education programs in the park, and on other public lands.

Every Kid in a Park is an administrative-wide effort, launched by President Obama, and supported by eight federal agencies, including the National Park Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Education, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
