WEST GLACIER, MONT. – The Crown of the Continent Research Learning Center at Glacier National Park is hosting a brown-bag luncheon presentation by sculptor and Glacier National Park Artist-in-Residence K. Gretchen Greene. The free presentation is Monday, June 22, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the park’s community building in West Glacier.

Greene will present a portfolio of large abstract sculptures in steel and bronze, describe her process from hiking trail to welding booth, and offer a preview of what future works inspired by Glacier may look like. Greene is a Boston area sculptor and designer known for her innovative work in steel and bronze. Drawing on memories of oceans, rivers and streams, Greene combines curling, twisting waves, rhythmic perforations, and fragments of torch etched text to create large, multilayered, abstract wall sculptures and carved, curved, layered sculptural table bases.

Recent exhibitions of Greene’s work include major international art and design fairs, Todd Merrill’s gallery in New York City, a solo show at New York’s Hammond Museum, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design, and an installation at the East Boston Harbor.

The artist-in-residence program at Glacier National Park offers professional artists an opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline while being surrounded by the park’s inspiring landscape.  Each artist is able to pursue their work while in the park, and then engage and inspire the public through an outreach program.  The public programs will be related to their experience as the artist-in-residence and can be in the form of demonstrations, talks, exploratory walks, or performances.  Digital images of selected work produced as a part of the residency may be used in park publications, websites, and presentations for education and outreach.
