No, it not's playing a game of monopoly while chowing down! "Foodopoly" is the title of a brand new hardcover book by the Executive Director of Food & Water Watch, Wenonah Hauter. The subtitle of this tome from The New Press (www.thenewpress.com) is "The Battle Over The Future Of Food And Farming In America". Author Hauter says, "If we don't confront & change the consolidation & corporate control of our food system, only a very small percentage of people will benefit from the good food movement. We can't shop our way out of this mess". Hauter contends that the local food movement is not enough to solve America's food crisis & the public health debacle it has created-instead, she takes aim at the real culprit; the massive consolidation & corporate control of food production, which prevents farmers from raising healthy crops & limits the choices that people can make in the grocery store. I believe it to be a powerful read as Publishers Weekly blurbs, "A meticulously researched tour de force". Anything that is a "tour de force" has to be pretty important, although I'm not exactly sure what the danged term means...I'm just the Puffman. I think I'd better read "Foodopoly" before my next meal!
