BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Heavy rains have brought flash floods to portions of central and eastern Montana but authorities say damages have been minor.

Musselshell County emergency services coordinator Jeff Gates said Thursday that some private roads were damaged by high waters in areas south and east of Roundup.

Gates says the flooding occurred in areas where wildfires last year killed off vegetation. That's allowed rainfall to run off the landscape unchecked.

On the Northern Cheyenne Reservation, emergency services director Yulberton Sandcrane says the Birney area saw flash flooding but there have been few other problems.

The National Weather Service forecasts the rain to continue through late Friday and issued flood warnings and watches for much of eastern Montana.
