Divisional VB Tournaments set for Malta & Conrad
This past weekend’s Volleyball play at Conrad and Choteau were edge-of-the-seat events in both cases. At the 1B Friday, Shelby’s win over Fairfield was one thing but in three straight games, was a surprise to everyone. The Coyotes played great and then went on to give Choteau everything they could handle Friday night before losing in game 5 in overtime.
The way that things transpired on Saturday you almost have to believe that Fairfield’s loss was a wake-up call as they beat Cut Bank 3-0, then Shelby 3-0 and then beat Choteau 3-2 with the Bulldogs coming back to win that if necessary game. Choteau Coach Ann Funk was highly complimentary of Shelby’s play in the Tournament and Fairfield’s as she noted that Jill Barta may have played on Saturday the best that she ever has.
In this week’s Northern Divisional at Malta, #1 Glasgow from the 2B will meet 4th place Cut Bank (1B), 3rd Malta 2B faces 2nd place Fairfield from the 1B, Top Ranked Choteau (1B) meets 4th place Wolf Point (2B) and 3rd place Shelby (1B) faces 2nd place Plentywood (2B) starting Thursday morning at 10am.
At the 6c West District Tournament in Conrad, the Sunburst Lady Refiners had quite a day upsetting 2nd ranked Dutton/Brady 3-2 in the Consolation Semifinal and then turned around and beat Power 3-1 in the Consolation Championship. Simms/Augusta was too much for the Lady Refiners in the Championship match which the Lady Tigers won 3-0 but Sunburst earns a trip to this week’s Northern C Divisional in Conrad. First round pairings there have 7c Champion Belt playing 3rd place Power from the 6C at 9 am and then North Star, 2nd from the 6C East playing Sunburst. That will be followed by 6C East Champion Chinook against 7C 2nd place finisher Fort Benton. The final first round match has Simms/Augusta against 3rd place 7C finisher Great Falls Central.
