Sara Hudson is a high-functioning professional who has planned and managed several economic development and community development projects – many in Montana, and others in more crowded places like Texas.
Her October presentation at the Montana Economic Development Association (MEDA) Fall Conference voted “Most Valuable” of all presentations by attendees. Those locally that had the privilege of attended agreed – which started a conversation about bringing Sara to northcentral Montana.
Acknowledging the sizeable gap between the knowledge and practice of community development and economic development, Sara presents an agenda to better illustrate their differences. She is well known for developing .
models and frameworks for various fields of study in an effort to bridge the gaps between theory and practice, and uses her recent work experience as Community Development Project Manager for Big Sky Economic Development to tie her research to the real world.
Sara has been internationally recognized for her work on “The New Economic Development,” which is seen as the convergence of efficient economic development and equitable economic development. Sara’s work was recognized by the International Economic Development Council in Dallas, Texas when she served as a panelist on the “Equity-Driven Economic Growth” panel in 2014.
Sara is a fourth generation Montanan, born in Hardin, Montana and raised in Billings, Montana. She is a graduate of Senior High School and Rocky Mountain College. Sara holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and has completed her doctoral coursework in Urban and Public Administration at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Urban and Public Affairs. She is a professionally trained strategic planner and has extensive experience in community and economic development.
Sara owns her own consulting business, Hudson Consulting, L.L.C. In addition to her work in community development and economic development and her doctoral studies, Sara was recently appointed as interim director of the U.S. Small Business Administration Region, 8 Veterans Business Outreach Center (Region 8 VBOC) housed in Big Sky Economic Development in Billings, Montana. She manages the operations of this six-state region which includes MT, ND, SD, WY, CO, and UT.
