BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — Butte Sheriff Ed Lester says the man investigators believe shot a 23-year-old woman while robbing a taxi business is dead.

Lester declined Tuesday to release the identity of the man or say how he died. Lester tells The Montana Standard the death does not appear to be suspicious.

Lester says the man acted alone and there is no public threat.

The investigation into the Jan. 24 robbery and shooting at Mining City Taxi is continuing. KTVM-TV reports police have recovered some evidence, including the hard hat the robber was wearing.

Authorities say a man entered the business with a revolver and demanded money. The woman on duty fled and was shot multiple times as she ran away.

At the time, the woman was reported to be in stable condition.
