Big Deal At Big Sky
Big Sky Resort is the home of the Montana State University Ski Team & they’ll be hosting the MSU Invitational NCAA Division 1 FIS-University race THIS weekend…Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Potential future Wold Cup Champions will be around AND abound! The course will be set on Andesite Mountain, accessed y Ramcharger chairlift, on Tippy’s Tumble. Whenever I’ve tried skiing, I ended up doing a “tippy tumble” myself! The MSU Invitational is 1 of 8 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) ski races. The women’s & men’s GS (Giant Slalom) Qualifier is set for tomorrow (Friday) starting at 10 in the morning. The men’s & women’s SL (Slalom) race will be held on Sunday starting at 10 in the morning. The schools taking part are University of Utah, University of Denver, University of Colorado, University of New Mexico, University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Wyoming & Westminster College. I note that the school I attended, the Dwight Weese School of Broadcasting is NOT represented this weekend! According to Kevin Francis, MSU Ski Team head alpine coach, “The MSU Alpine team is looking strong this year with 4 seniors leading the team & some exciting new recruits. With the help of the Nordic team, we will be gunning to win the meet on our home hill.” RMISA is the OFFICIAL association for the college & University NCAA teams in the Rocky Mountnain Region, which is made up of 7 NCAA Division 1 teams & 1 NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) institution from 7 states. The Federation Internationale De Ski/international Ski Federation (FIS) is the international governing body for skiing & snowboarding racing. For more information, viist: www.bigskyresort.com/events.
