Taylor Swift penned two songs for the soundtrack to the soon-to-be-blockbuster film ‘The Hunger Games,’ and the sweet blond starlet — who’s accustomed to writing from her own perspective — recently told Rolling Stone that it was nice to step out of her own mind for a change. ”It’s pretty intense writing about my own life, my own struggles,” she admitted. “It was almost like a vacation to get to write from someone else’s perspective.”
Lee Brice doesn’t look anything like Kathie Lee Gifford, but the country singer is going to make his hosting debut filling in for Gifford on the ‘Today’ show alongside show host Hoda Kotb on Tuesday, March 20. Brice will co-host the fourth hour of the show with Kotb, as Gifford has the week off. While Brice may have some mad hosting skills (we’ll have to see), it’s likely he landed this spot because Kotb has been a fan of his since she put his 2010 hit ‘Love Like Crazy’ on her iHoda Playlist.
If you listen to country radio at all, and we know you do, you know to watch this video clip at your own risk. Toby Keith performed his can’t-ever-get-it-out-of-your-head catchy hit ‘Red Solo Cup’ today on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ and the audience seemed to love the creative drinking anthem. Keith even cut the music right in the middle of the song to really play up the part where he proclaims that the cup is more like a friend to him than anything.
At the beginning of December, LeAnn Rimes was already five songs into her upcoming spring 2012 traditional country record. Though she just released ‘Lady & Gentlemen’ in September 2011, Rimes is taking a different angle with this new project, aiming for the simplified more stripped-down sound of traditional — and original — country tunes. Rimes will release the record this spring with her longtime label Curb Records. In a series of tweets this week, she offered fans behind-the-curtain peak at her time in the studio.
It turns out that Eric Church‘s wildly successful Blood Sweat and Beers Tour is quite appropriately named, as the singer has encountered some roadblocks along the way that just might make a grown man want to cry — or at least reach for a cold one. Church, who has seen tons of his tour dates sell out before his eyes, filed a lawsuit Tuesday (March 13) to stop vendors who are illegally manufacturing and selling merchandise bearing his name and likeness.
Carrie Underwood just offered up a sneak peek behind the curtain of her ‘Good Girl’ music video, which the star released this week to an expectant crowd. Speaking of the video, which features a dark, exotic Carrie and a frilly, pretty-in-pink Carrie, the singer says it’s not about a bad girl and a good girl so much as an innocent girl and her more experienced self.
Jennifer Nettles was finally able to let out a little secret on her blog. The female half of the duo Sugarland was relieved to announce to her fans that she’s going to be one of the celebrity judges on the upcoming ABC show ‘Duets.’ Joining fellow judges Kelly Clarkson, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke for the show, which will debut this summer, Nettles has to scour the country for two duet partners to join her on the show. In her blog, she dished a bit on what she’ll be looking for in a partner.
The little country redhead who’s earned her stripes and the name ‘Little Reba’ on this season of ‘American Idol‘ stuck to her guns this week, chose her own song and ended up wowing the judges. Laine, who brought it last week with Whitney Houston‘s ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go,’ had to perform a song this week from the year she was born: 1994.
Yesterday (March 13) Dierks Bentley made an appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ to perform a song he contributed to the Bob Dylan tribute album, ‘Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.‘ The curly-haired singer offered up his version of Dylan’s ‘Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)’ with progressive bluegrass band the Punch Brothers.
At the beginning of this year, the buzz was that engaged Steel Magnolia partners Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones were parting ways professionally and potentially in their relationship as well. But now, the country duo — who are currently nominated for ACM Vocal Duo of the Year — are slated to play the ACM Experience, which will be held March 30-April 1 in Las Vegas. And this announcement seems to have put rumors to rest… for a little while.
Jason Aldean will be premiering the new video for his single ‘Fly Over States’ exclusively on CMT Friday, March 16 at 10:30AM ET. The fifth single from his ‘My Kinda Party’ record, ‘Fly Over States’ praises the hardworking, everyday man in the states that are too easily classified as just a bunch of fields to fly over.
In the wake of the March 2 storms that resulted in a spinoff of destructive tornadoes, artists in the country music community are doing what they can to help people get back into their homes and back on their feet. For her part, Miranda Lambert just announced that she’ll be donating 100 percent of the proceeds from remaining ticket sales of her Louisville, Ky. concert to the American Red Cross.
