Athletes of the Week

Our KSEN/K96- Bozeman trophy male athlete of the week accomplished what very few can ever say they accomplished and our female athlete of the week came back with a bank, returning to the CJI lineup after missing four games with an injury.

High school wrestlers who win a state championship are few and far between and the ones who make it through a season undefeated are even fewer and farther between. Senior Taner Stone of Choteau accomplished that feat last weekend at the all-class state wrestling tournament, winning the 160-pound division by major decision in the championship match. It completed an undefeated 45-0 record and second state championship in a row. First-year head coach Sam Armstrong tells us the undefeated record was never the goal, but when you work hard and dominate like Taner did, it just happens. Taner Stone of Choteau, our KSEN-Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week. Also nominated this week was Cut Bank senior Kyle Brauhn who had two very strong games with 16 points against CJI and 22 against Choteau. Braughn was also strong on rebounds and overall defense.

Our female athlete of the week came off a four-game injury and lit up the gym with 19 points against Cut Bank last Thursday night. The CJI lady Hawks are a young team scrambling every single game to get the victory and so being without their leading scorer and rebounder is a real deficit. Junior, Korrin Harmon not only hit 19 points but led the team in rebounds coming off the bench initially. She helped the lady Hawks to trim an 18-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to within seven at one point in the fourth quarter. CJI Coach Jerry Kulpas says she has the reputation of “the one that opponents need to make sure they limit” and so it leads to a lot of extra pressure from the defense. She was also seven of nine from the free-throw line, including five of five in the fourth quarter. Harmon is averaging ten points and seven rebounds per game. She has a 22-point season high game earlier this season. Also nominated this week was Choteau senior standout Molly Salmond who had her season-high 16 points against Conrad. The nomination notes that Molly does a lot of things that sometimes don’t get noticed, like steals ad creating turnovers.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week; Senior Taner Stone of the Conrad Cowboys and Junior Korrin Harmon of the CJI Hi-Line Hawks. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.

And we encourage fans, coaches, teammates and parents to nominate athletes of the week. If you think they’ve had an exceptional performance email me at mark.daniels@townsquaremedia.com.
