KSEN’s Athlete of the Week program is back for another season, giving us the opportunity each week to feature an outstanding performance in sports by a local high school male and female athlete. We start the year off with two outstanding athletes who have opened up the season in grand fashion.

Our male athlete has been on the KSEN radar for the past three years now as a phenomenal football and basketball player from heart butte.   In the opening weekend of the high school football season, senior Chasen Kipp left no doubt that his performance was one of a kind. In a 65-30 win over Northern Cheyenne, the Warriors running back set an all-class state record rushing for 553 yards on 14 carries.    Head coach Ross Drishinski says a big improvement that Kipp has shown this season is seeing the overall field much better.

On his 14 carries, Kipp crossed the goal line eight times, second in the 6-man record book and he scored twice more with a kickoff and fumble return, ten touchdowns in all. And not only was Kipp’s performance an outstanding individual performance but a great win for the Warriors who hadn’t seen the win column in 3 years.

Female athlete of the week honors go to Choteau senior hitter Megan Krone, a first team all-conference player from a year ago.    Krone turned in a solid performance in the opening weekend at the Choteau invitational where the lady Bulldogs finished fourth in a 13-team field.

In the Bulldog’s conference opener she had five serving aces, two blocks and nine kills in a three set sweep over Rocky Boy.   Coach Ann Funk pointed out that Krone, along with several others on the team, “did a great job passing.”

Also nominated this week, Shelby’s Zach Torgerson who rushed 15 times for 175 yards and four touchdowns.  He also hauled in a 25-yd touchdown pass in the Coyotes 66-0 route of Harlem.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week:  senior Chasen Kipp of Heart Butte and senior Megan Krone of Choteau.   The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonalds in Cut Bank.   McDonalds honors our athlete’s with two free value meals each.
