KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week got off to big starts on the opening weekend of the season, or, in the case of our male athlete, the first two weeks of the season.

Male athlete of the week honors go to Valier's Colton Curry, who, on the opening weekend of the year scored a whopping 33 points in a Panther win over the Simms Tigers. Curry, a 6' 6" junior post for the Panthers, was also big in a game played Tuesday night against Sunburst, a last second win in which Curry rebounded a missed Sunburst free throw and got a chance to win it at the free-throw line. The game winning free-throw gave the Panthers a one-point victory and Curry once again led the Valier scorers with 20 points. He also hit three key free throws in a row down the stretch to help Valier improve to three and one.

And, for the first time in years, the Shelby Lady Coyotes started their season with two straight victories. First-year head coach, Phil French called them great team victories and they were, but undeniably the Coyotes rode the scoring of junior Abbey Aklestad who pumped in 21 points in the victory over Bigfork. The totals included three three-point shots and ten for fourteen shooting from the free-throw line with six of those in the second half when the game was close until the final minutes. She outdid that performance on Saturday night with 23 points in another Shelby win over Missoula Loyola. Once again, the 23 points included three three-point shots.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, junior, Colton Curry of Valier and junior, Abbey Aklestad of Shelby. The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald's of Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
