We had to sort through a pile of nominations to pick our male athlete of the week, on the female side, just one nomination, but still a quality pick.

After sorting through that pile, we could not deny the numbers put up by Heart Butte senior Chasen Kipp, who broke the state record in yards rushing (again) with 592 yards and eight touchdowns. The talented athlete also caught two touchdown passes and returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown, for a grand total of eleven. According to the Montana High School Association record book that’s also a state record for total touchdowns in a single game. This second time athlete of the week totaled an inconceivable 717 total yards in Heart Butte’s win over Box Elder 70 to 64.

Other nominees included senior Tanner Stone of Choteau, 255 yards, five touchdowns versus Rocky Boy; Isaac Ramos of Valier, 186 yards, three touchdowns, a 75 yard kick return for touchdown and ten tackes; Bret Henke of CJI, 200 yards, four touchdowns, 14 tackles and a quarterback sack; and Peter Hamilton of Cut Bank, 156 yards, two touchdowns, 12 tacks and three extra-point kicks. I would have added Luke  Batson, Fairfield quarterback for his three touchdowns in a big win over Shelby.

Our female athlete this week goes to Sydney Kuka of Valier, a standout on the Valier Panther volleyball team. Head coach Cayla Morel says Sydney is a team captain and continual leader with the numbers. In a Valier win over North Toole County, Kuka has seven kills, nine digs and two aces. In a loss to  CJI she recorded nine kills, ten digs and three aces.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week: Senior Chasen Kipp of Heart Butte and Sydney Kuka of Valier. The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonalds in Cut Bank. McDonalds provides our athletes with two free value meals each.
