Arbor Day 2012 In Cut Bank

Arbor Day comes from the Latin "ar bor", meaning tree. It originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska by Sterling Morton. The very first Arbor Day was held back in 1872 on April 10th, and it's said that one million trees were planted on that day. There's something neat for Arbor Day on tap this Wednesday (5/9) in Cut Bank at City Hall. Tina Gauthier will be giving a welcome speech along with Dave Jones, a regional state forester. The Cut Bank Middle School students and citizens will be planting an Arbor Day tree. In Canada, our neighbor to the north, Maple Leaf Day falls on the last Wednesday in September during National Forest Week. Ontario celebrates Arbor Week from the last Friday in April to the first Sunday in May. Nova Scotia celebrates Arbor Day on the Thursday during National Forest Week, which is the first full week in May. Prince Edward Island celebrates Arbour Day on the 3rd Friday in May during Arbour Week. Yeah, that's right, ArboUr with a "U"...they spell some words differently up there.
