A Surprisingly Rich Life
I’ll be up at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby this evening (Tuesday) to read & share more “Montana History.” We just started a fantastic read…”Empty Mansions: The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune” & I can’t wait to delve into more of the book tonight. Authors Bill Dedman & Paul CLARK Newell, Jr. have uncovered the surprisingly rich life of Huguette Clark, an enigmatic heiress to a copper-mining fortune from the Gilded Age who had not been photographed in public since the 1920’s. Her story is a fairy tale told in reverse: a daughter born with the bags full of gold who locks herself away. Though she owned 3 palatial homes in California, New York, & Connecticut, they sat vacant while she lived out her final 2 decades in a New York City hospital, despite being in excellent health. I wonder how Obamacare would deal with this now-a-days! See you tonight at 6 o’clock SHARP for more Montana History at the Heritage. Be sure & check the book out at: www.EmptyMansionsBook.com or: www.BallantineBooks.com.
